Sadie Gustafson-Zook and Ethan Setiawan return to SongSpace Gallery in the Undercroft Gallery for an evening of ballads, fiddle tunes and stellar mandolin playing on March 10, 2018!

In 2014 Ethan Setiawan outplayed 22 other pickers to take top prize at the National Mandolin Championship, held annually at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. He’s one of the youngest mando champs in the festival’s history.  In 2017 he did it again, becoming last year’s RockyGrass Mandolin Champion.  Originally from Goshen Indiana, he has studied with jazz mandolin player Don Stiernberg, and is now pursuing a performance degree at the Berklee School of Music in Boston.

Based out of Boston, born in Oregon, and raised in the mid-west, Sadie’s secret power is her versatility, being a multi-genre singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter. A folk singer-songwriter raised on old time fiddle tunes with a classical and jazz vocal education is sure to make some interesting music. In September 2017 Sadie released her first solo album of original songs entitled, “I’m Not Here,” produced by her friend and long time collaborator, Ethan Setiawan, who also played mandolin on the album. “I’m Not Here” also features Goshen, Indiana-based drummer, Sonny Carreño, Joel Pontius on electric bass and Jay Lapp (of the Steel Wheels) on the steel guitar.

Free-will cash donation to the artists.  $15 suggested.  Bring a snack or dessert to pass, if you like!

Saturday March 10. Doors 7:00pm, Show 7:30pm, in the Undercroft Gallery at First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh, Shadyside, 605 Morewood Avenue, Pgh., 15213.  All ages; wheelchair accessible.  For more information, 412.621.8008 or uusongspace@gmail.com.
