The Early Mays (https://theearlymays.com/) return to SongSpace for the celebration of their BRAND NEW EP, Prettiest Blue!

“Crystal-clear voices, stunning harmony lines… more straight-up beautiful music would be tough to find.” —Adam Hurt

Emily Pinkerton (vox, guitar, fiddle, banjo) and Ellen Gozion (vox, banjo, harmonium) share a love of North American traditional music, harmony singing and songwriting, often working with a close circle of collaborators to bring warm, intimate performances to venues large and small. They burst on to the folk scene in 2014 with a #2 debut on the National Folk-DJ Charts, took home the blue ribbon in the Neo-Traditional Competition at The Appalachian String Band Music Festival, appeared on NPR’s Mountain Stage, and hit #1 on the National Folk DJ charts with their 2017 release, “Chase the Sun.” Ellen is a seasoned ballad singer and visual artist who has taught the art of crankie-making at the Augusta Heritage Center, and throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Emily is a songwriter who weaves folk, classical and world music traditions together in projects like “Rounder Songs” for clawhammer banjo and chamber ensemble (New Amsterdam Records 2017). They will be joined at SongSpace by Nicole Myers, a genre-crossing cellist and founding member of Cello Fury. to celebrate their newest release, Prettiest Blue.

“The Early Mays are exceptional storytellers, singers and musicians who craft their songs with the utmost care and attention; they’re a joy to listen to.” — Alex Gallacher | Folk Radio UK

The show will open with the music of special guest Ol Whitetail (https://www.olwhitetail.com/), who grew up in rural northern Appalachia and now lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She creates cinematic folk songs with hints of country blues and jazz. Her lyrics are inspired by philosophy, magic realism, activism, and nature.
